Doing your newborn session outdoors sounds scary, I know. As new momma’s we can feel so apprehensive to take our littles outside! You never know if it might be windy, chilly, too hot, too bright, too loud…the list goes on and on.
But what if I told you there was really nothing to worry about? What if I told you that you could bundle up your cutie to keep them warm, and that the sounds of the wind and the ocean would put them right to sleep? Getting your baby out into sunshine has so many benefits but my favorite happens to be how dreamy your photos look with all that natural light, momma.
So to help you from freaking out about taking that snuggly bundle outside, here are three things to keep in mind when preparing for your newborn session.
1. warm up at home first
Like I said, taking your new baby outside for photos can seem like a lot at first. There’s a lot of preparation that goes into leaving the house. So don’t start your session outside! Let yourself warm up to the camera and start inside your home where you’re comfy and cozy. Then when you’re ready (and baby is happy and fed) we can load up and go out.
2. bring layers
Even if you are shooting in the middle of summer, layers are ALWAYS a good idea for newborn sessions. If it’s too hot, take them down to their diaper and wrap them in a muslin blanket to keep a breeze going through to them. If it’s too cold, wrap them up and snuggle them tight! Layers layers layers.
3. choose an easy to get to location
Ain’t nobody tryna go hiking into a mountain range or even walking farther than 5 minutes away from the car with a newborn. Juggling a baby, the car seat, the diaper bag, the layers AND being new parents with mom postpartum is enough, don’t you think? Lord help us if there are toddlers who are also participating! I will help you choose a location that we can literally roll up, get out and start shooting. Let’s make this as easy as possible!
